i had no plans of releasing this song.
it was an accident, i guess you could say. back when we were recording the 'what the living do' ep, i played this as a way to warm up my voice before tracking. a few months later, scott [cortez] asked if chace [wall] had saved the "acoustic version of good news." as it turns out, not only had he recorded it, but he'd saved it. there was no second take or re-dos. there's no layering or reverb. it's just an honest song and a fleeting moment. and if i'm to be honest, not that great of a performance--if you can even call it that.
i asked chace what he thought about this before uploading it. he kindly said, "it's one of my favorite moments of recording that I've been a part of. it's direct and intimate. i'm glad i hit record and saved it for everyone to hear eventually."
so, here we are in quarantine, and it feels like the right time to share it. it's not perfect, nothing ever is. here's to hoping we can all share these little moments together again soon. xo, sophie
